Previously I wrote about two other social classifieds namely: Jihoy and Eesy Cheesy . Jihoy has been able to gain good popularity in the USA and some other countries but Eesy Cheesy couldn't get any significat volume of traffic. Microsoft is abandoing it's free classifieds "Windows Live Expo"

Microsoft is retiring it's free classifieds known as Windows Live Expo. Following notice is now being displayed on the Windows Live Expo site:

Windows Live Expo will discontinue service on 31 July 2008. In preparation, the following features are no longer available:

• Create a new account.
• Post a new listing.
• Extend a listing.
• Upgrade a listing to a premium listing.
  

All current listings will remain on expo.live.com until they expire.

Several months ago Yahoo retired its free classifieds section (classifieds.yahoo.com). Now Microsoft is following yahoo. While another internet tycoon google is still continuing it's free classifieds known as google base. MySpace and FaceBook are also continuing their free classifieds sections so far.
According to Alexa less than 1% people who visit live.com visit its free classified section expo.live.com. So it is not surprising that Microsoft couldn't find Windows Live Expo profitable and now shutting down.

Craigslist is limiting use of HTML

Craigs list is going to limit the use of HTML tags in body of ads. Craigslist has taken this initiative because "much of the HTML in postings these days is used by spammers for harmful purposes, such as cloaking spam links, embedding false keywords, and overriding the flagging system.", as mentioned on craigslist site.

The proposed allowed tags are :

• basic text formatting tags like <B> <U> etc.
• Line breaks : <BR> <p>
• Horizontal line <hr>

Discussion on this proposal is going on craigslist's help forum. Checkout this. It seems most of the users are supporting the move. So it may be anticipated that craigslist will limit use of HTML as soon as it can finish necessary software updates.
