Kijiji USA is now eBay Classifieds

Kijiji was the second most popular free online classified ad listing website of the USA. Kijiji was acquired by the auction monster eBay years back. Now eBay willing to use their popular brand name to make their free classified site more popular has changed name of their free classified site. Kijiji USA is now named as eBay Classifieds. Note the incorporation of their brand name eBay into their classified site. Kijiji was a foreign language word which means village. US english speaking people was never familiar with this word. I guess this has made eBay to change the name to a more English familiar name.

eBay is already in legal feud with their mighty rival Craigslist. The main difference between two sites is that craigslist supports HtML ads while eBay Classifieds (formerly kijiji.com) is plain text based. Since the ads are plain text kijiji is much more spam free than craigslist.

Many many times my clients ask me, "Is it profitable to post ads on backpage?" I simply answer, "Profit can't be guaranteed as it depends on a lot of factors but I storongly suggest to post ads on Backpage".

Around one year ago gumtree, a popular free classifieds site of UK and Australia starts it's USA mission with 3 cities namely Boston,  Chicago and New York.  gumtree newtwork is a partner of kijiji network. Being heavily promoted by eBay kijiji has got enormous popularity in the USA. So gumtree has decided to leave USA market instead of competing with it's partner site kijiji.  

Now  boston.gumtree.com redirects to  Boston Kijiji, chicago.gumtree.com redirects to Chicago Kijiji and newyork.gumtree.com redirects to New York Kijiji. Combinely gumtree-kijiji network is the largest and most popular network of free classified sites around the world. Although craigslist.org has huge popularity in USA the site fails to get that much popularity outside USA and among the non-english speaking nations. Grumtree-kijiji network has captured the non-US and non-English markets of online free classifieds very well.

EesyCheesy.com is a Seattle based brand new free classifieds launched few months ago. It's not only a platform for free classified advertising but also social networking, photo & video sharing, blogging. There is a flavor of MySpace or FaceBook.

Craigslist is the leader of free classifieds sites. It is founded by Craig Newmark in 1995. He started craigslist to serve as a non-commercial community bulletin board with classifieds and discussion forums.
Although the site has gained huge popularity and now one of the top traffic catching site, it has retain it's non corporate nature. It has a large network worldwide in about 450 cities in all 50 US states and over 50 countries.
